Daily movement: Encourage movement at multiple scales, from small movements such as “squiggling” in chair or to larger movements such as walking or standing. Provide activity settings within learning environments that encourage standing up, such as brainstorming at whiteboards and hands-on learning at standing height tables. Where possible, provide flexibility such as sit-stand desks or a variety of table heights within individual spaces. Consider spaces for learners to sit low to the floor space and stretch. Circulation between spaces shall be designed to encourage activity such that stairs are inviting and intriguing and hallways are activated and encourage full-body movement. Especially in elementary schools, ample playground space that is accessible to all shall be provided. (Also see Outdoor Learning)
