Applied learning in TVUSD high school is a series of elective courses that combine academic, technical and employability skills. Explore TVUSE’s CTE Page for more info. There are multiple pathways, each with different needs, but all applied learning spaces shall be flexible. Large areas to move and do hands-on learning and practice real-world scenarios is essential. Secure storage for valuable technology and equipment shall be provided. Sinks will be needed in most applied learning spaces, as well as easily cleanable materials, and infrastructure for a variety of tools, setups and technology shall be included.

CTE spaces should have access to parking and a public front for community access to encourage school based enterprises.

Flexible

Applied learning spaces shall be flexible enough for future adaptation and multiple uses.  A large lockable storage room in the learning space should be provided.  Ample power supply is needed at the perimeter of the space as well as drop down locations.  Appropriate ventilation is also required for some equipment (such as welding, woodworking, soldering, paint booths, etc.) The rooms should also be equipped with large sinks.

Visual Connection

Applied learning spaces should be adjacent to classrooms where direct instruction can occur, with visual connections such as large windows, moveable wall or large overhead door between the spaces to provide continual supervision.
