Core learning is best achieved when there are a variety of spaces to support instruction and research. Spaces shall be provided where teachers can conduct whole group instruction to a full class, such as in a typical Classroom, while also providing opportunities to break-out into different group sizes to support exploratory methods of learning. Extended Learning spaces can be an extension of the classroom where students collaborate in small groups, pairs, or do independent study outside of the standard classroom. SPED spaces for students with special education needs shall be integrated and woven into the fabric of the school, with priorities of equity and accessibility at the forefront of design. Spaces should be designed to meet the unique needs of students, with special attention to lighting, sound, adequate area to move about and specially equipped bathrooms.
